& Guidelines
Within the overall
MGH research environment there are many sets of policies and guidelines
that have been developed over the years to enhance the effectiveness
and ensure the integrity of research activities at the MGH.
The policies are intended to state and clarify institutional
expectations for the conduct of research, and to reduce misunderstandings, conflicts, risks, and disappointments among
researchers and research services.
These policies also respond to the requirements of many government
oversight agencies at the Federal, State, and local level to assure proper safety protection for our fellow citizens; to
address societal concerns about resources; and to provide appropriate performance and fiscal accountability to the general
public, whose taxes supply about one half of the funding that makes our research possible.
As a member of the research community at the MGH, you need to address
these policies at two levels:
-
First, you should develop a general awareness of all the policies so
that your research endeavors are consistent with both their letter and spirit.
-
Second, you need to become thoroughly familiar with all those
policies that directly apply to your research activities.
We think you will find the policies are reasonable, and most are
applicable to your work. By recognizing and following them, your research will proceed more smoothly and your goals will be
achieved more readily.
